What to do if you matched
Sign the back of your ticket, keep it somewhere safe, and check the claim deadline for your state, which is often between 180 days and one year. Small prizes can usually be claimed at a store; larger ones at a lottery office. Over $5,000, 24% federal tax is withheld. Read how to claim a lottery prize and what to do if you win before you claim anything large, and estimate your take-home with the tax calculator.
